Kiambu–Ndumberi Link Road (Karura Ward) – 2026

This proposal outlines the planned repair and maintenance of the Kiambu–Ndumberi Link Road in Karura Ward, a vital access route serving residential areas, businesses, and schools. The road has deteriorated due to heavy usage and adverse weather conditions, leading to potholes, poor drainage, surface erosion, and limited accessibility during rainy seasons.

The road is approximately 3.5 km long and is currently a worn gravel surface. Its poor condition affects mobility, increases transport costs, and poses safety risks to users. The project aims to restore the road to an all-weather standard, improving accessibility, safety, and durability.

Key works to be undertaken include bush clearing, grading and reshaping of the road surface, gravelling with a 150mm layer, installation of culverts, construction of drainage channels, and compaction to strengthen the road. These activities are designed to address both the surface condition and underlying drainage challenges, ensuring long-term performance.

The total estimated project cost is KES 12,512,500, which includes a subtotal of KES 11,375,000 for core works and a 10% contingency allocation of KES 1,137,500 to cater for unforeseen expenses. Major cost components include gravel supply and spreading, culvert installation, drainage works, equipment hire, labor, and project supervision.

Upon completion, the project is expected to deliver an improved, all-weather road that enhances transport efficiency, reduces vehicle maintenance costs, and supports economic and social activities within Karura Ward.
